Legacy Lives On
It’s been more than 15 years since the George S. Eccles Legacy Bridge was constructed for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Now a campus icon, the 300-foot bridge is a favorite photo op for students and visitors alike. The path not only has a very practical purpose of bypassing a busy road to connect lower and upper campus but also serves as a beloved reminder of when the games were in our own backyard.
Beautiful photo! As co-designer of the Eccles Bridge, with structural engineer Dan Burroughs, I am moved and humbled to see our project continuing to serve and inspire over all of these years. It was a special time to be in Salt Lake City, in that precious and fragile moment between the events of September 2001 and the 2002 Winter Games, as we and so many of our colleagues and clients worked to bring small victories of healing and future possibility into our lives and communities. For the privilege of being gifted this opportunity, to join with all of you in shining beauty and energy into a darkened world, I am eternally grateful.
